Deadpool came real close to being rated NC-17, and it's Marvel. News is that scenes were cut just to barely reach the R rating. Hell, some critics who watched the R version are screaming it should have been NC-17.

Somewhat unrelated, but I was a HUGE fan of Spawn comics growing up. When they released the movie, they killed the entire franchise for me by making it PG. I loved the comics because they were full of gore, sex, and bad language. The movie was a fucking joke. Even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles graphic novels were hardcore. They turned them into a kid's franchise. They're just now turning out more adult themed movies, but the damage has already been done as far as I'm concerned.
