vrxxx.com sold twice last year. First for 10k and second for the 15k a few months later (investor to investor sales). The first Live VRtube site went up last week. There are more than 2 dozen VR Porn websites in the world now and that is growing by 3/4 a month now. By winter 2016 I expect that number to be over 200 non-affiliate original content sites worldwide.
The consumers are going to have 3 major options for a VR HMD in just months with at least 6 more due to hit the market in the next 15 months without counting VR Mobile adapters like GearVR that will be made by nearly every smartphone manufacture in the next 18 months including Apple.
Not many webmasters understand domaining. But they do understand the fundamentals that make domaining and not realize it. But, it's their needs that help set-up the need and pricing.
Natural Traffic, Keyword Search Volume, Keyword Advertising Revenue. Things that save you a lot of xtra work and money doing advertising and SEO or just make SEO much easier. A short memorable name helps with return traffic. A unique name that is not easily confused with others keeps from giving your traffic to someone else (traffic leakage). Hard to put a price on all that but we do.
If the above were not true, then just any letters and numbers would do and all TLD extensions would be valued the same.
The problem in the VR names market right now is that there is no solid data to support high value claims yet as the Tech has not really reached the consumer. So everyone is using the 'Gut Feeling' data method. And many keyword names obviously can rely a little on general past Porn Name Keyword Stats.
But there is a time coming very soon were most folks are going to be searching for "VR Porn" specifically, and it's going to change the market forever and that is not hype.
There are thousands of flat porn sites now and are going to be useless to what folks are going to be searching for the most. You do need to say what you are doing in your name, then it is clear (hard to count missed clicks in search and put a value on that).
Those with existing sites may convert well with your original name but it is some extra seo work to capture 'VR' traffic in search with it while maintaining your traditional flat 2D traffic in search.
To anyone who thinks they might dive into VR Porn market, my advice is to buy your names early even if you do not intend to launch for a year or more. The supply will go down and the demand for them will go up along with the price. Hire a domainer with experience just as a consultant to guide you though the process to avoid making mistakes that many do not understand. Hope you can tell which ones know enough. It's your ROI at risk. ROI is everything.
For me, as a seller, I don't mind waiting. Time is on my side for value.
Most of my names are not posted for sale ...Yet !
