We are writing software for the Rift. In my office I have both PC's and a Mac. It flies on the PC (Alienware) with everything enabled to the max.
On my 2013 Macbook Air, we have to disable a few features to get a good smooth frame rate so that looking around in the rift doesn't create any jaggies or jumps. To me its a satisfactory experience.
However, after about 15 minutes, the Macbook Air's fan turns on and spins fast as its obviously getting hot. My IMac 2009 does the same thing, but my iMac 2011 does not. I'd have to check the spec but I think the graphics processor is faster / better in the 2011 than on the 2009 and Macbook air.
Regardless, thats a really balsy statement from Oculus, but maybe Apple will pay attention and bring out faster GPU's in their newer machines.
