He was smart enough to realize that he could capitalize on his popularity. When the show started getting big he was the only one that thought about promoting himself by selling his own line of shirts. The shirts sold so well the Harrison's ended up offering him a large amount for half of his business so they could sell and market his shirts and products. His outsell all the others by far. He also licensed his name for other products and hired an agent to get him jobs making appearances.

He might be talentless, but lazy he is not.
