It's the things that happen between the living survivors. The tone they choose in the directing and editing can be really dark and sometimes makes me feel a little uneasy when I start thinking about myself in the same situation.
Imagine throwing that lit cigarette in the gasoline. I would definitely do it without hesitation -- but not without a sick feeling that would keep me awake every night thinking about those guys burning alive. I can't think of any other TV show that goes to those places and shows real human brutality that comes from a desperation to live another day. Or maybe some people just look at it like any other violent TV show without putting it into that context.
It may not be a perfect show, but it sure as fuck delivers that "icky" feeling occasionally.
