It's pretty common knowledge that the U.S. was (is) heavily involved in drug trafficking going as far back as Nixon and Reagan. Hell, do a Google search for Rick Ross, there's all the proof you need. The CIA funded a covert operation trying to oust the Sandinista government in Nicaragua, and used money made from illegal drug trafficking to finance it. Rick Ross was making $3M a day selling crack cocaine. He was used to distribute it in predominately black neighborhoods. Hence the widespread crack epidemic of the 80's and 90's. He received the cocaine from the CIA, which then used the money to set up puppet regimes across the globe.
Even to this day, the U.S. is highly involved in drug trafficking. Do you really think the U.S. invaded Afghanistan because of the Taliban (which was in power because of the U.S. in the first place when they were "Freedom Fighters", the Mujahadeen)? Just so happens that Afghanistan is responsible for 92% of non-pharmaceutical grade opiates. It's not a coincidence.
