The genes of an organism which only has say a 1:1000 chance of procreating and passing its genes on, vs say 1:1.5, wouldn't survive long. Particularly in our species where we make what is essentially among largest bets in the animal kingdom,... having one child every year, with low survival rates and which requires two parents to survive (evelotionarily speaking) to adulthood beng essentially helpless for well over a decade of its life.
One theory in evolutionary biology of why homosexuality pops up in so many species and does not die out with evolution is that it's basically a group survival strategy, providing what is essentially extra mothers to the group.

Genes aren't the whole story in the cause of homosexuality though, so even if this theory has some validity homosexuality wouldn't die out completely. I've never believed the 10% figure, it's a myth that the gay and liberal communities just keep repeating and it's understandable why they do it.
That evolutionary biology theory - if there's a social group of cavemen a couple hundred thousand years ago, how does male homosexuality promote survival of the species by NOT reproducing at all? I'd think the advantage of having an 'extra mother' or two in the group would be more than offset by a male or two who don't reproduce at all. Unless these groups had more males in them than females.
If the planet today was hit by a deadly virus that wiped out females, the homosexuality rate would instantly skyrocket among men, no genes involved, humans are sexual pleasure seekers.
