Yes, If you were thinking about buying the S7, the GearVR is the ticket to GOOD cheap VR.
But I do DEMO Cardboard with a old S4 all the time. Keep it in the car and when I go to the local inebriation facility, they all ask me to bring it in to take it for a spin.
Works pretty good for demo purposes.

This way if they break it, not a great loss. It has been dropped and thrown many times.
