1) Yes, I think so.
2) If you want to have these images on your site pages as regular WordPres galleries, you have to host them locally anyways. WordPress can't use hotlinked files for that. Check

When all galleries located at the same site, they all have the same design and fit best into your WP template. Note the link to playboy site I've posted above. Those galleries look very organic to me.
