It could be over. NY has 95 delegates up for grabs. If a candidate wins over 50% of the vote they can claim all of those delegates which would give Trump 850 delegates if he wins them all. A candidate has to get 20% of the vote or more to get any delegates. Currently Trump is polling at 53% in NY with Kasich second at 22% and Cruz last with 17%. So it is very realistic that Cruz could end up winning nothing in NY and Trump wins them all. Even if he doesn't win them all he is set to win the huge majority of them.

After NY there are only 743 delegates left. If Trump wins them all in NY that would mean Cruz would would have to win 89% of the remaining delegates in order to secure the nomination.

Cruz's only real hope at this time is that both he and Kasich can get at least 20% of the vote in NY so they get some of those delegates which will help them potentially keep Trump from getting to 1237.

I think Cruz's hope is that he gets close enough to the 1237 that either Rubio's or Kasich's delegates could put him over the top. He offers them the VP spot (or whatever spot they want in his administration) and they pledge their delegates to him, putting him over the top.
