Proof: Seinfeld, funniest sitcom ever made. Everything was being made fun of, no drama whatsoever. Loved that show.
More recent brilliant comedy shows (also again without soap opera drama) are Workaholics and Its always sunny. These are hilarious.
Every comedy with drama sucks because that means it is taking itself serious. Which is killing for comedy.

Something funny and weird about American television and comedies is that every sitcom must have a "MOS" (Moment Of Shit, as it is known). That's where, usually at the end of the episode, someone goes, "I've learned something today..." and it gets all sappy for about a minute. That 'awww' moment. It's an old FCC and Morals Doctrine from the 1950's! And still you see it in every single show, including cartoons like Family Guy and South Park. Everyone in the Industry calls it the Moment Of Shit (MOS) and you can always, always spot it. LOL
