if a civil war broke out would you want to make signs and get shot and killed or have a weapon to fight? there are way more lethal ways to kill people. i won't say how. way more dangerous than a gun
any farmer there could do it.

Farmers can already get restricted category weapons providing they are of good character.
There is a trade in illegal weapons in the country, criminals are also sometimes involved in stealing guns from farmers. It seems not a week goes by without one or two shootings involving crime gangs in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.
The majority of the general public don't want to see firearms laws relaxed and no major political party seems to want to revisit gun laws in any case.
