Nearly all of the technology we have today is because of our military and NASA. (Did you know NASA had computers around the world linked up to track space flights before we had satellites?) Computers, the Internet, GPS, satellite radio, cell phones.... fucking battery powered anything....
And all of this money goes back into the community anyhow. When the US military says "We need to build a new aircraft carrier" it means tens of thousands of jobs - people to design it, plan it, build it, orders for steel and everything else...
They technology they are working on today with lasers.... God only knows how that will change our future. For all we know we'll be getting our mobile devices powered by lasers twenty years from now.
