you've obviously never lived in the UK if you think 1200? (~£900) a month is anything you can do much past survive on. Plus it's not just about what you can earn 'tax free' - there are MANY other issues a couple of which I already mentioned. How about those who live in social housing at eg £100 a week rent + council tax... they fall ill at work, through an accident in the workplace... 3 weeks later the employment sick pay runs out, and the state-based sick-pay is £85 a week... out of which you need to pay your £100 a week rent, your council tax, buy your food, pay your utility bills. That amazing £900 'tax free' a month (which is the tax threshold, not the minimum wage) that you use for your rent, food, utility bills, petrol to travel to-from work, monthly car insurance/tax doesn't leave much to put into savings for such instances, and you find yourselves getting evicted... this exact scenario is happening to someone I know, who has worked various jobs since age 16, right up until now at age 45 - far from any kind of leech on society.
Merely anecdotal of course, but there's literally millions of people with a similar one, caught up in a catch-22 situation... many are just lazy, but most are not, and don't know where to start to get out of the poverty trap. It's fucking disgraceful in 2016. As I said, I'm a capatalist by nature, considered a conservative if people were to label my views, and believe everyone has the choice to better themselves - problem is, the vast majority of those don't *know* they have a choice, because for one thing the education system is so fucked. Add in a thousand other instances of gov't interference and fuck ups, and that's what keeps people down - I don't mean they intentionally do, like some sinister lets-fuck-with-these-guys way, but through incompetence, being out of touch with reality, thinking they know what's best for everyone, and managing to dumb down the whole of society accordingly during the course of recent history.
That people don't know, or don't care, or plain can't see the rest of the population (let's not forget, those of us at this board actually in business make up a tiny %age of the population in UK/USA) are finally getting angry enough is to be laughed at? Derided?
As I said, I'm by no means a lib leftie, far from it, I'm just not also a self-centered dick (that's not aimed at you personally by the way haha) oblivious to everything that is wrong, just because I personally am doing kind of ok at the moment.
Whether anyone agrees with all that I wrote is moot really, because the point I was addressing is a person is fucking nuts if they think the state of things as they are is 'fine', based on their personal income/situation - fuck me how insular do you have to be, to have and believe that point of view. The sheer fucking wastefulness in bureaucracy of govt's alone using YOUR tax dollars should be enough to make any intelligent person weep, throw in shit like the WMD lie, just as a single example - and things are 'fine' - l o f l
