I don't really think of this as a "Republican vs Democrat" issue. I am a Jersey boy, and Trump was constantly in the news when I was a kid. Way back then we considered him cheap, gaudy, tacky, and a crooked. He represented everything that was wrong with Americans back then in the late 1970s and 1980s.
I've said this time and time again on GFY - I don't like Hillary Clinton. I would gladly vote for Rubio or Kasich over Hillary Clinton. However, if you give me a choice between Trump or anyone else, and I'm voting against Trump.
If you take a step back from all of this, from a strictly political standpoint it's stunning that Trump has gotten this far. He launched his campaign with "Mexicans are rapists" (and don't argue he didn't because we all know he did), and has attacked pretty much everyone from Muslims to Women to Mexican to the British to entire Middle East and has done so while trying to buddy up to Putin and North Korea. He doesn't have solutions, he has slogans; He wants to "build a wall" but doesn't understand what the problem is with immigration - building a wall isn't going to change a thing. He came to California the other day and solved our drought problem in thirty minutes by saying we need to "stop shoving our water out into the ocean". (WTF does that even mean?) His policies are less of a plan and more of a position piece written by a high school sophomore. I loved the one about fixing the VA - "We are going to eliminate waste"... but he didn't explain how.
I think two things will happen on the way to November....
1) I think all of Trump's business deals with start coming to light and will be exposed, and I think there is a lot of dirty and bad stuff there. Someone on GFY mentioned ACN video. Very few of us have ever heard of it, and it looks bad. (People had to pay $500 to become a sales rep, and the only way they could really make money was to get more people to sign up to become sales reps.) This kid of stuff will come out slowly over the next few months, and it will make Trump look crooked as Lombard Street. Hillary Clinton is a very serious political operative with decades of exp and connections. They will start with Trump University, move onto another scandal, and another one, and so on.
2) Trump has no political experience at all. When they debate each other, Trump will have no clue of what to say when it comes to certain questions. If Trump is asked during a debate what effect the Malaysia-US Free Trade Agreement has had on the United States, Trump will have no idea what to say. He won't have a position on it. But any serious candidate most likely would (perhaps with the exceptions of state Governors). I really think Hillary will eat him alive during a serious debate. He will try to respond by being a bully and trying to make her look bad without being able to stand his ground.
Either way it sure will be entertaining.
