Simply put - users are getting bored with so much content that they need to keep crossing the line. It's not new - take a look back into 70s 80s porn and you'll see the same thing. Comes in waves and if you look at most tube sites under what people search for the topic has risen. Same reason why no man survived his lifetime on just one Playboy magazine.
Addiction sometimes leads to heavier drugs - same for porn. What was once produced is now vanilla so crossing lines into darker and darker content becomes more of a thrill.
