We would stand in the parking lot holding up 2 fingers. Some scalpers might approach, but it was usually other people, just going to the game that had extra tickets. We never sat in nosebleed and never paid more than ticket price.
We saw George Brett's last game for free. Guy & his daughter had 2 extras he said he got all 4 free from work. You really have to watch the tickets and know the seating numbers. One old guy tried to sell us tickets that were clearly stamped "COMP." We weren't going to pay for nosebleeds he got for free.
Wife & I got spoiled years earlier. Mom's boss had 3rd base side. 1/2 way between home & 3rd. 15th row back, on the aisle. 4 seats plus season parking, that we walked farther from the gate to the seats than we did gate to the car. Got to see almost every game as Mom's boss' wife was best friends with Mrs. K. They always went to the games with the K's and sat in their box.

One of my all-time favorite baseball moments involves the Royals (BTW as a baseball fan in general it is good to see them good again). It was Ichiro's rookie year with the Mariners and he was being interviewed by Bob Costas who asked him if his teammates had taught him any English slang and he said, "Yes, Brett Boone taught me to say 'Playing Kansas City in August is hotter than two rats fucking in a wool sock.'"
