Simple answer to a tough question.
When I was younger (dinosaur times) and my boyfriend asked me out I expected him to pay. However if I wanted to go somewhere (like the movies) I paid.
If a decision is made jointly (like a cruise) and the money is a bit more than 20 bucks than me and my than boyfriend sat down and discussed the expenses and what each of us is going to pay.
Now putting this in reality could be more difficult
