Still very popular, much more popular than Ingress, the previous game the same company made with the same tech.
Being from the nerdist age of the Pokemon (huge fan when I was in elementary), the nostalgia factor for my age group is nuts. And yes, I've gone on Pokewalks myself. Southern California is lit with this kind of activity now, especially at Santa Monica Pier. It's not uncommon for people to crowd the beach and pier until 3 - 4am nightly, just for the game.
With all the updates coming, I don't see it dying out very fast...
