This is the problem when there is limited competition.
This *may* also have to do with reduced revenues because is Backpage being locked out of VISA Net.
Backpage was a copy-cat of Craigslist anyway with an AdsSense looking ad link element. Nothing particularly original except their openness to adult oriented business. Now they are pissing off their niche market with sky-high rate increases.
Recipe for failure IMHO
