I am not stretching anything. There is a difference between a legitimate business expense and stretching the tax law. There is a difference between "taking my wife out to lunch" and "a strategy meeting with my business partner". Any time I have a meal with someone in the industry, someone I do business with, or even someone I want to do business with... It's a write off.
The problem with Trump is he makes millions of dollars a year, and then gets a tax break aimed at families making a lot less:
Donald Trump Keeps Collecting a Tax Break Aimed at New Yorkers Who Make Under $500,000
But that is not even the issue... Trump cannot release his tax forms because they will show the exact status of all of his businesses. He is trying to project an image of "winning" while on paper with the IRS he is trying to make his business look like it's not making any money at all. We know he is making money somewhere along the line, but when we see the truth about how it's done it will make him look horrible. It's like sausages - Everyone likes them, but no one wants to see how they are made.
Trump can release his tax forms at any time. But he won't. Because if he does it will news fodder until election day.
