In another thread, I was a big advocate of Dubai but it really can be done in a 4 day trip. By the way, January is like reasonably cool at around 25c and lower at night. It's also nowhere near as expensive as HK (Hong Kong) or SG (Singapore) and there are loads of budget hotels around for under $30/night.

I'm off to Singapore this week, which is also worth seeing but its also a 4 day trip at max.

For a longer trip, I would still recommend Paris or London but you could spend weeks in each and still not see everything. My personal favorites are in China (Beijing and Shanghai) but there are loads of awesome cities in China. Being in China right now is in one way like being in the USA back in 1914 when the United States was transitioning from an emerging market to a super power and for me, that's really fascinating.
