Gene has always had a great work ethic. He's always been focused on succeeding and earning money. There's things a person can do in life that can get in the way of success. He's been a smart guy and avoided them. Success is his alcohol, and money is his cocaine. If we were all as focused and devoted as him in what we do to earn a living, we'd all be more successful.
This reminds me of an interview with Charlie Daniels, where he asked himself the question, "Do I want that [the life of an alcoholic/druggy], or do I want a career? Because you can't have them both." A very insightful interview with a very successful person in his own right. 16:07 to 20:10.
And I had no idea Charlie Daniels was on the side of the stage watching Jimi Hendrix perform at the Isle of Wight.
