Akamai probably hosted him in the first days because of good advertising, but after few years it became more then a burden so they dropped him. Cloudflare probably thinking the same.

I think it was more about scammers using cloudflare to hide their server IPs and such, not much of cloudflare's services. based on what I see on his twitter, many companies offered him "pro bono" services including cloudflare rep.
