I am sure that 13% of the population in slavery had no beneficial effect on the US economy...considering that 1/3 of the population participate in the work force it is safe to say that 1/3 of your work force were slaves...I am SURE nobody else but the slaveowners felt the benefit of 1/3 of the work force working for free
