They were talking about living on the moon. Until they found there was nothing of profit to be had. Same goes for Mars. Unless there's something on Mars that's worth $1 million a pound, no need to live there.

Robots are fine, cheaper and better than sending people into space. They can mine the $1 million a pound rocks, assuming there are any.
