Hi Sid,

I just thought of something - you can use an iPad as a second monitor and as extended desktop on a mac.

The biggest iPad is 12.9" only, however it's ultra thin, light weight, and runs about 10 hours on a charge, and it connects to your Macbook wirelessly. Maybe this would be an ideal travel monitor for you?
