Yeah, that is a tough one. Drivers surely love those - faster turn, but there are huge safety concerns, for example to pedestrians when you look for traffic one way and do not see pedestrians on the other side. Actually some countries are even removing turn on red signs and not many doing the opposite way of adding them.
I have read a big article on that and there are actual many example situations explaining why these are bad for safety reasons (and not only for pedestrians which is the number one, but not the sole one).
I do not see many or even any countries implementing those, most are discouraging/removing those little by little.
