Coding.

Well, it seems like it's now becoming a sort of basic skill to maintain if you do want to sit on your ass in an office and stare at the screen drinking coffee days long.

Even refugees get help to learn coding. ( like there are no other useful things to do )

That coding "Thing" sounds too saturated, what is it they are actually learning?

I understand there is backend, frontend, apps, games, web coding, enterprise level crap and so on. There are numerous languages that usually can solve the same task but, as I understand, due to standards and habits, features some of them are preferable.

Eventually it comes down to the task a person is interested to accomplish, securing a job.

I used to code back in the mid 90s and it was C and Pascal. Nowadays I use my skills to do some JS, CSS and HTML to do web related projects but never really moved beyond that point.

I like games but am not fancy working on them, I like web sites but I'm a little sick of that - been doing web work for too long. Not like I'm looking to switch completely off but I am researching some alternatives.

I'm though fascinated with mobile apps, iOS or Android - no preferences, but generally it has my attention.

Some would say front end dev would make sense to learn for a designer, I guess so, but IMO it's like doing dishes in a washing machine, I want a completely new approach.

So, what do you think would be the fastest yet effective way to bring back my coding skills and eventually get a job / start a project?

I don't think i want to learn massive corporate style coding pattern but I'm ready to step in and do learn shit like doing apps.

What language would you call the most universal and really a must to have a grasp of?

I heard Java.

Anything else?

Mark Prince enters the room, appreciate your input.
