I was thinking about this earlier today. Once of the first things Trump said he would do is rip up this agreement with Iran, and the article read said he could in fact do it. I am not saying the agreement is great, but... If we walk away from it Iran wins everything. The agreement was if they put off research into nuclear arms, we would pay them the money we owe them and lift sanctions. If Trump rips ups this agreement.... Iran gets everything it wanted. It got the money, it got the sanctions lifted, and can go back to making nuclear arms. This is the dumbest thing Trump can do.
As for Iran and Iraq.... Iraq wasn't a mess. Iraq was destroyed in a matter of weeks. During the war itself the United States lost some 486 lives in 2003, and grand total of 4500 lives since 2003. While this sounds like a large amount, to put it into perspective we lost 58,000 american lives in Vietnam in half the time.
Middle Eastern countries like Iran and Iraq have no concept of what modern warfare is really like, and once combat starts they have no idea what is happening. With Iraq, the very first bombs destroy their military communications - In the first few hours the Iraqi military was unable to issue any commands to anyone. As for the Iranian military, well, that's not impressive at all. Their air force has about 150 combat aircraft, all of which is badly out dated. To put that in perspective, the USS Gerald Ford carries 80 aircraft - and the United States has nineteen aircraft carriers plus three more under construction.
If President Trump (gasp!) wants to go to war with Iran the US military can handle it.
