Agreed and I used to put these shows on.
I go to max 3 a year now, sometimes less as I enjoy spending time with my family - AMS, PHX, VEGAS.
The shows are basically the same core group of people, very little new business to be had at shows but its good for service providers to keep relationships going and "service" clients.
The way I see it the ones who attend every show are doing it because the people at the shows are their "core group of friends" and they can pay for the "vacation" as a deduction.
Sure business gets done but it is secondary.

Exactly, even for veterans who have been around for years, we can reach each other with skype/fb without needing an in-face meeting anymore. Even with the trips being free, I'd prefer to enjoy a nice vacation than spend 3-4 nights at a show.
