The funny thing about news is the "framing." Framing makes all the difference in the world. Let's say that nothing happened at all.

The "liberal" outlets could frame the story as: Fake outrage over BLM by crazy right-wingers

The "right" outlets could frame the story as: BLM so weak they can't carry through their protest promises

The truth of the story could realistically be: 10 BLM activists in Southside Chicago promise to protest outside 7/11 but overnight icing forced them to stay home

All three headlines above could be 100% true, yet all paint drastically different pictures. This is a great day to bring the topic of framing into the light as just yesterday the world had some fun with the following twitter hashtag: https://twitter.com/hashtag/trudeauelogies?src=rela

Everyone is so concerned about being right, that they don't care about what really happened, which would likely be somewhere in between. We thought that the Information Age would be great for understanding each other better, instead it has allowed us to cherry pick our news so that it supports our own agenda. This is a bad thing, which few seem to realize. For years I was using Facebook as a news aggregator until I realized I see the same stories with the same viewpoints all the time. That is not news. That is cherry picked opinions supporting my preconceived beliefs.

Self-awareness is a good thing. We should all practice it more for a better future.
