The alternative was to drive off into the sunset and let Nico have it all his way... I know what I would have done. It's easy to post on a forum about his decision but the guy is triple world champion, he didn't get there by being a pussy. He threw a spanner in the works to see how Nico would deal with it, he dealt with it well so congrats to him for that.
Driving that slowly takes an amazing amount of skill to do, he had to slow him down in the corners then get far enough ahead of him before the DRS detection point so as not to let him get DRS.
I'm already excited for 2017, tons of new regulations, wider tyres, less degradation, re-fuelling coming back... it's gonna be much more like the old F1 era where drivers choose a private strategy with their engineers and in the end, the best combination of skill and strategy will win.
