:mad UK Bans IPod gadget!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3115345.stm

A device for Apple's iPod MP3 player which allows people to broadcast MP3s to one's FM radio is banned in the United Kingdom. The device called the iTrip uses low power to reach FM frequencies. It markets for $35 in the US where it is legal.

Apparently, this violates the UK's 1949 Wireless Telegraphy Act. The Act mandates that people need to purchase licenses to use radio transmitters. Only licensed broadcasters are allowed to use the UK's analog radio waves.

The iTrip's use of radio waves is compared to pirate radio stations which do the same thing but at a bigger range. Iceland and Austria also refuse to allow iTrips because of radio frequency issues.

This sucks monkey bollocks :p
