Yes. And it was a first stop after a long journey. So the sick slaves get offboard there and the strongest went further. I lived some time on Bonaire and i must say, it looked like South Africa. One part black, poor, less educated. The nice part of the island rich, big villas, white people. The last years the finally invest in schools cause Holland took back some more financial control.
Where i live in Brazil there is also a Dutch fortress. But the Portuguese took it (we want compensation ;) The island where i am staying used to be a pirates nest. There must be two wrecks on the botom of the sea here. Saw also fortresses in Malaysia. In a small city here in Brazil is a brothel that is now a small museum. Guess what i saw there, wooden shoes... Dirty Dutchman.
