As for your question about Trump knowing anything....the FBI was testifying in front of Congress at that exact time and it was all over the news that they had testified that Hillary's server was hacked by other countries.

It's very possible and highly likely Trump himself would have no knowledge of Russian hacking....but considering some of the close ties in his campaign management team to Russia, it's very likely they knew about it.
I also think that Trump's statement on TV had nothing to do with directly asking Russia to hack the election. That was just him speaking without thinking...you know... 99% of what comes out of his mouth.
