I have get the same problem in past and i have been stuck to learn a new way around. That's not cool at all.
If i was you i would make them installed it with softcalous pay the extra fee should be around 5$ - 10$ if they ask.
If they don't proceed to your request well... Change hosting... sucks but Learning new work around = time consuming and i doubt your looking for this.
I don't get it why hosting make everything in their power so you suck the life out of them with LOTS of request to fix or set up stuff when you could do your
self if proper software and tools would be installed on your server AKA cpanel. IMO
