South China Sea is a disputed territory, and since US conducts huge volume of trade in that region it has interest in keeping it as international waters and out of Chinese control... same can't be said about US western coast, China wouldn't have any legitimate interest there...
US presence there shouldn't be viewed as hostility towards China, but more like placing a chess piece in that region to prevent China from expanding...
