They are doing the same thing the gangbangers do recruiting them young, recruiting kids without solid families so they feel some sense of importance in the world. One of the high schools I went to was all white 600 or so students. One day a black kid enrolled and he lasted a few months. The shit he went through was really fucked up. I'll never forget the day he totally lost it and never came back lol
There were a lot of racists there, swatzticas etc but I never saw hooded people or their rituals etc
I think a lot of racist shit is casually passed down without the giver/receiver really being aware. My first memory of that kind was at Christmas time at my step Dads parents house when I was 6 or so. "Grandma" opened a tin of mixed nuts and she was teaching me what each kind was called. She held up the biggest nut in the tin and she said "this one is called a n*gger toe" they're actually called Brazil nuts
