Look, everyone knows the US was "helping" Syrian rebels, many of whom were members of Al Qaeda. When asked about it, Brainless John said they were a "different branch". Oh, great then! Whew, glad it wasn't the same branch of a fluid, ill-defined, constantly shifting group of criminal terrorists!

We beefed up the rebels because we didn't want to admit to the American people that we were attempting to destabilize Syria and remove Assad.

All of this is public knowledge.

Further, we did not actually fight ISIS because we thought they would help with removing Assad.

We did all this because tragically misguided AIPAC imagines that destabilizing the middle east will somehow help Israel, and so has decided to push the US to systematically remove the current excuses for government that exist there. Comical, if it weren't so stupid and dangerous.

The result of shipping millions of dollars in arms and cash to the rebels has been that a good number of them decided to stop taking orders from General Dumbass, and start doing whatever the hell they wanted. These fine fellows formed the basis of ISIS.

They then promptly made a deal with the sack of shit son of Erdogan to ship oil to him, and thus were untroubled by the US and Turkey as they killed and tortured thousands and had their fun.

The US did create ISIS, essentially, and also failed to stop it by inaction. While it pains me to be forced to agree with crazyfissio, he is correct about this one thing.
