No radicalized ISIS would converse with family or friends. This has been proven from the past, with the killer in the US, walking around with a gun. Everyone that knew him said he was a nice guy & no one suspected anything.

I'd suspect it's not to protect those, but to keep business to business & get the job done with little interference so all goes to plan.
