Russia is probably the only country in the world that could survive on their own even if the rest of the world stop to exist. These "sanctions" just made them sober and will speed up transition in self-sufficient system. I can remember when they were giving MIGs in exchange for the wheat back in 80's.

Rivers, seas, mountains, oil, gas, diamonds, fish, animals, woods, and unexplored reserves of gas and oil. Incredibly big country and vast expanses mixed with the history that learned them to resist to any kind of conquer (and to survive). Small neighboring countries can just bark on their borders and thank god they are patient and pretty peaceful.
