If you want to make a quick buck, go the wordpress route. If you want longevity, find a wordpress theme you like and transfer it to html/css/php/javascript/jquery by hand. Basically, use it as a template for graphics.
Personally, I find wordpress to be absolutely horrible on many levels and no professional firm should be selling wordpress templates to their clients at top dollar and passing them off as their own designs. You will get hacked/exploited and when that happens your rep will go down the tubes.
