I'd say that he is a good constitutionalist and is probably the last person Trump should have chosen - he is very much against the power of the Executive branch being expanded and has always rendered opinions against the meshing of those powers. Trump might be sorry he picked the wrong guy if he is after more power in the presidential position.
He is also very pro-state...which is another drain on Federal power..which will render Trump powerless in most issues if it is brought to the supreme court
The only thing I can see the Liberals being against (other than the blocking of the last candidate) is his documented views on assisted suicide. I can see him upholding and actually forwarding the 420 movement by stripping the Feds of their rules against marijuana...and leaving it to the states. He seemed friendly to it in his home state
