A while back I read an article that talked about one of the was Hamas gets people to support them. There was a skirmish with Isreal where they shelled Lebanon. Hamas acted before the government did by going to the people who lost their homes, were injured, and/or lost family members and gave them cash. They also helped them rebuild. They quickly and easily bought the loyalty of a lot of people who might have been on the fence or even opposed to them before.
