Each Indian family receuves about $200K/year casino profit distribution and oil royaltees. There is no excuse for the miserly existence they live.
And the same thing goes for the houses that the government builds for them; they're very nice houses. There's a chunk of two city blocks in the middle of Vancouver's Kerrisdale neighborhood that belongs to the indians. They have free respectable houses on them only the houses are in a state of advanced dilapidation, the yards and streets are covered in garbage and junked cars, refrigerators. One block away houses are $2-$3 million dollars but the reserve owned houses have been utterly neglected.
And schooling? I had to pay to go to university by working in construction jobs.
They get free university, with books, housing and food and clothing allowances all paid for by the government. All they have to do is get a C- borderline pass. An Indian could feasibly get a GED, a one year pre law course for Indian law, and then take a two year Native Indian Lawyer course and become a Native Indian Lawyer and make a minimum of $100k a year doing government negotiations and shit for his band. This apparently is almost impossible for them to attain. Only a small handful can be bothered to push themselves away from tables laden with beer or boiling pots of gasoline on the stove they love to huff to do this.
On more remote norther reserves they have a wonderful trick. Surrounded by trees they can't be bothered to cut firewood so when winter hits they start pulling studs out of the walls to burn in the fireplace to stay warm. Or the porches. By the end of winter a $65k house must be condemned and so they start howling at the government to give them more houses because they don't have houses to live in. Thus after some political pressure Dept of India Affairs gives them new houses which are in turn destroyed for firewood the next winter. This is tolerated partly to create "jobs" for the indian men to build houses...
