There's also the huge costs to consider of Human Space Exploration. A machine can be sent 5 light years for the next generation of scientists on Earth to learn from. For Humans that's a no go.

The problem is not so much the speed of light (186,000 mi/sec) but TIME.
If we travel fast than the speed of light we could theoretically go back in time. Then theoretically an astronaut could arrive back on Earth before he left !
Scientist believe that neutrinos do travel faster than light but the infinite amount of energy required to propel something beyond that speed is a real hangup
