Funny statistic.
First off...those same kind of astronomical odds are in play with lots of things. Like winning the lottery. But people still win it.
Second of all, I've never worried about a "terrorist attack" in my life and never will.
I've never heard ANYONE in real life (like at the gym, in restaurants, nightclubs, hiking trails, concerts, etc.) EVER discussing their "fear" of "terrorists" attacking them.
I've heard people talk about terror attacks when they just happened and wondering if it could happen here.
But on a day to day basis? Not a worry for 99.99999% of people in the U.S.
Having said that...I would suspect that part of the reason that those odds are so great is because:
1. There aren't a lot of "Islamic Terrorists" in the USA (comparable to our population)
2. Security and law enforcement are all over it (maybe TOO much in regards to our personal freedom)
That is why an argument can definitely be made for NOT bringing in massive amounts of Syrian refugees.
Why increase the odds by allowing people into the country that come from geographical regions where ISIS and Al Queda have declared "War" on the U.S. and there is no real govt. in control of that area?
The odds stay good as long as that doesn't happen.
Bring 100,000 Syrian refugees and toss them into a non-Muslim country like the USA and the odds go up considerably because we don't know if there is a trojan horse or two in those numbers.
It only takes one guy to do something stupid and blow himself up in a crowd while screaming about "Allah".
Don't we have enough homeless people and veterans of the military that need help right here in our own country anyway?
We are 20 Trillion in debt.
The Arab nations close to Syria are filthy rich with oil money.
Why aren't they taking them?
"Oh, it's because they are different tribes"
So fucking what? The USA is a different "tribe" too. Totally different culture. And far more expensive to buy plane tickets for tens of thousands of refugees to fly across the globe as opposed to simply moving a couple of hundred miles in any given direction from Syria.
Just my opinion.
