The answer isn't 94 million, its only 21 million as the rest don't want to work!
I've never watched a NBC programme but it sounds like they are as bad as the bbc.

The 94 million includes college students and retirees.
I don't think those should count in the unemployment rate.
No it does not. The 94 million is from the U.S. labor dept. statistics and is based on the WORKFORCE.
Not children and not retirees. Yes, it does include college students. But 4 out of 5 college students HAVE jobs.
It is bad here with jobs. The people who do have jobs have crappy jobs that don't pay.
What we need is to get business BACK to America and stop outsourcing everything.

Here ya go. Don't even need to do math. The govt. has the graph all laid out nice and pretty for you. Use the drop down for dates and got back to 1990 for instance or 1980 as the start date and then see how bad it really is. https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS11300000

This is why the US and many other Western Countries are in deep debt and getting worse. An unemployed or low salary worker can't contribute, the companies they worked for and now in theEast, contribute very little to nothing. Without trade tariffs that take away the advantage of manufacturing in the Third World. The West is fucked.
And so that should be. Other Presidents fucked them in the ass.
no you guys "paul markham-ed" yourselves it has nothing to do with government or immigrants...westerners got fat and are now uncompetitive...if westerners wanted to employ westerners, they would....if westerners wanted to buy "made in west" goods then they would...
banning spoons because they make people fat does not make the fat go away...if you want to cure the obesity you will have to adopt a more sensible lifestyle

Paul you are right. Western EU also gave away factories to Eastern EU and Asia.
The solution? No quick fix but fair trade is a start. For example, China is a closed market; only 40 or so Hollywood films a year are allowed in, import taxes are sky high on Harleys and everything else.
One way is to put the import tariffs on first and then negotiate back to fair trade.
Lots more jobless than 5%. Closer to 20 or 25% if you count everyone who lost good paying work at $30 or $50 an hour and won't do Starbucks at $15.
And Rockefeller Center based, GE-owned, NBC, can kiss my ass.

Force countries like China to buy as much as they want to sell.
Here it's this fucking simple
If you can't count our use a computer for what it is made for -- why do you deserve a job anyway?
You do realize that those numbers you keep showing do NOT show the millions of people who simply have given up looking for work?
The Labor Force Participation numbers show the exact true amount of people qualified to be in the work force (not retirees, not children, etc.)
The numbers you are showing are the ones the Feds changed the algorithm for during the beginning of the Obama administration.
The new algorithm doesn't count the people who are not "actively seeking work".
Now how the govt. decides whether you are "actively seeking work" is kind of a mystery.
But that is the way it works now. The unemployment numbers are not accurate. They tell a PARTIAL story. The story of how many people who are "actively looking for work" are employed.
The rest of the story is told by the Labor Force Participation numbers...and those are the ones that Presidents, Senators, and Congressman REALLY look at in assessing the economy.
Up until a few years ago...the number showed all the qualified work force and how many were employed in that total number.
Do you understand? The numbers you are being fed are not accurate. That's why you are incredulous when people claim otherwise.
Do some research. Don't just try to find stuff that agrees with your mindset. Look for the truth in the matter. It's real easy to find out.
Here are some ideas for you:
Google this phrase:
"who is counted in unemployment rate"
Google this one:
"definition of labor force"
And google this one:
"actual people in labor force unemployed"
Open your mind and take into account that you may have been misled by the politicians and media outlets you trusted in.
