I left the UK for America 20 years ago. There is a huge misunderstanding re the UK healthcare system, it's not free, not by any stretch of the imagination. When i left i was paying around 40% tax on my income and another $2000.00 a month National Insurance. National Insurance covered
pensions and
health care. Now 20 years ago $2000.00 a month was a lot of money, even today it's a lot but it was based on my earnings in the film industry.
The system worked and i paid zero for medication or Dr visits, Vision or Dentistry.
I didn't have any hospital bills but if i did they would have been free. The downside of the UK system was it could take years to have any non life threatening surgery like hip replacement etc.
I believe something like that could work here, those that earn the highest salary pay a higher % towards health care and those on low salary less.
